The borders of Swabia may be difficult to define, yet it’s clear that the region, which takes up parts of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, offers unique cultural variety with its lovely towns, important churches and abbeys, magnificent palaces and mighty castles all nestled in a diversified landscape. The bustling heart of Swabia beats in Stuttgart between slopes and vineyards, while the thinly populated expanses and plateaus of the Swabian Alb is full of untouched natural beauty and many small romantic villages and towns, Upper Swabia is characterized by the Baroque, and the north invites us to the Hohenloh plain with wildly romantic valleys of the rivers Jagst and Kocher.
Over 270 photographs reveal the region of Swabia between the Black Forest, Lake Constance and the Allgäu Alps, between Lech, Wörnitz, the Hohenloh plain and Heuchelberg. Special chapters report on the poets and thinkers, Swabian cooking and Swabian wine, automobile (hi)stories, the Fuggers in Augsburg, the proverbial Swabian frugality and outstanding examples of modern architecture.
